The Mice in Council

The mice have a problem. A big cat lives here. He is very, very quiet. The mice are all scared. They sit in a circle. What can the mice do? Old Mouse looks very sad. They want to be safe.

Young Mouse has an idea. She holds up a bell. The bell is small. The bell is gold. Put this on the cat. The bell will go ding. The bell will go dong. All the mice clap hands.

Who will help the mice? Old Mouse is too slow. Tiny Mouse is too shy. Young Mouse stands up tall. I will do it now. She smiles at her friends. She walks to the cat. The cat is fast asleep.

Cat is taking a nap. Cat is big and soft. Young Mouse creeps very slowly. She tiptoes on her toes. She ties the gold bell. She makes a pretty bow. Cat does not wake up. He dreams of sweet milk.

The sleepy cat wakes up. He hears a happy sound. Ding, dong, goes the bell. Cat likes his new gift. He thinks he is pretty. Now the mice are safe. They play and they dance. They are all good friends.
