Once upon a time, in a land far away, Tsar Berendey lived in a palace with a magical garden. In the center of the garden grew a tree that produced beautiful apples made of solid gold. These apples were precious and sweet like honey, and the Tsar loved them very much. One morning, the Tsar noticed that several of his favorite apples were missing. He felt very sad because he did not know who was taking his treasures. Prince Ivan, his youngest son, promised to watch the garden and find the thief.

When the sun went down, Ivan sat under the largest apple tree to begin his watch. The garden was very dark and full of strange, rustling sounds coming from the bushes. Even though his heart beat fast like a drum, he stayed very still and watched the shadows. He used his bravery to keep his eyes wide open while the rest of the world slept. He wanted to help his father more than he wanted to go to bed. Ivan waited patiently as the silver moon rose high into the night sky.

Suddenly, a bright light filled the garden like a tiny, soaring sun. A magnificent bird with feathers of orange and gold landed softly on a branch. She looked like a flickering flame dancing in the cool night air. Her eyes were like sparkling blue jewels, and she sang a soft, humming song. Ivan could hardly believe such a beautiful creature existed in his father's garden. She reached out with her beak to pick a golden apple from the tree.

Ivan reached out carefully to catch the bird, but she was very fast and nimble. He only managed to grab one single, glowing feather as she flew away into the stars. The feather continued to shine brightly, lighting up the entire garden like a torch. It felt warm in Ivan's hand, just like a toasted marshmallow from the fire. He knew he had to find out where the Firebird lived to solve the mystery. He held the shimmering feather close to his heart and smiled.

The next morning, Ivan showed the glowing feather to the Tsar and prepared for a long journey. He packed a small bag with bread and water to keep his strength up. He walked past the palace gates and entered the deep, green woods where the tall trees lived. The path was hidden by thick moss and winding roots that looked like sleeping dragons. Ivan took a deep breath and stepped into the unknown forest with a steady heart. He was ready to follow the light of the feather wherever it might lead.

In a sunny clearing, Ivan met a large wolf with fur as soft as silver clouds. The Grey Wolf had kind eyes and a voice that sounded like the gentle summer wind. 'Do not be afraid, Prince Ivan, for I am a guide for those who seek the light,' the wolf said. Ivan looked at the wolf's big paws and sharp teeth, but he felt a sense of peace. He decided to trust the magical creature and climbed onto the wolf's strong back. Holding tight to the thick fur, Ivan prepared for the fastest ride of his life.

They ran faster than the wind over rolling hills and through sparkling, clear streams. The Grey Wolf leaped over giant mushrooms and passed trees that whispered secrets in low voices. Ivan saw purple flowers that glowed in the dark and butterflies as big as his hands. The air smelled like sweet jasmine and old, dusty magic from long ago. It was a world of wonder that he had never seen before in the palace. Every leap of the Grey Wolf took them deeper into the enchanted kingdom.

They soon reached a kingdom where the mountains were made of shimmering purple stone. The Grey Wolf moved silently through the mist so they would not wake the sleeping giants. Ivan felt a little nervous, but he stayed quiet and trusted his wise new friend. He looked up at the moon and felt the warm feather glowing in his pocket. He knew they were getting closer to the place where the Firebird made her home. The stars above seemed to point the way toward the highest peak.

They arrived at the base of a very high mountain that touched the white clouds. The Grey Wolf climbed the rocky path with great skill and impressive strength. At the very top, there was a hidden grove filled with soft, glowing moss. Ivan saw the Firebird resting in a nest made of silk and golden thread. She looked very different from how she had appeared in the palace garden. Her feathers were slightly ruffled, and she looked very tired from her long flight.

As Ivan stepped closer, he heard small, hungry chirping sounds coming from the nest. Three tiny chicks with pale gold feathers were waiting for their mother to return. The Firebird nudged a piece of a golden apple toward her babies with a gentle beak. Ivan stopped in his tracks and let go of the net he had been carrying. He realized that the bird was not stealing because she was greedy or mean. She was simply a mother trying to feed her family in a difficult land.

The Firebird looked at Ivan with wide, worried eyes and spread her wings to protect her chicks. Ivan knelt down on the soft grass to show he was not there to hurt them. He spoke in a soft whisper, telling her that he finally understood her secret. He saw how hard she worked to keep her little ones safe and healthy. His heart felt full of kindness instead of the desire to capture a prize. He wanted to help her find a better way to live.

Ivan took the glowing feather from his pocket and held it out to the Firebird. She tilted her head and touched the feather with her beak, making it shine even brighter. They shared a moment of quiet friendship on top of the magical, high mountain. The Grey Wolf wagged his tail, happy to see Ivan's gentle and understanding spirit. The bird sang a happy melody that sounded like silver bells ringing in the air. She realized that Ivan was a friend who would help her family.

Ivan had a wonderful idea to help both the Tsar and the Firebird family. He promised to plant a special golden apple tree right here on the high mountain. This way, the Firebird would not have to fly so far away to find food. She chirped with joy and nuzzled Ivan's hand with her warm, soft feathers. They were no longer enemies, but partners who cared for the magic of the forest. Ivan felt proud that he had solved the problem with kindness.

Ivan climbed back onto the Grey Wolf's back for the long, exciting trip home. They traveled back through the whispering kingdom and the glowing, magical forests. When they reached the palace, the Tsar was waiting at the gates with a happy face. Ivan told his father the whole story about the Firebird and her hungry little chicks. The Tsar smiled and agreed that friendship was much better than a bird in a cage. He was very proud of his son for being so wise and brave.

They planted a golden seed on the mountain, and a new tree grew tall and strong very quickly. Every year, the Firebird visited the palace garden to sing a song of thanks. The Grey Wolf often stopped by the palace to play in the tall, green grass. Ivan became known as a prince who was both courageous and very kind to all creatures. Peace lived in the palace and the enchanted forest forever and ever. Everyone lived happily in a world filled with golden light and friendship.
