Little Jackal was very hungry. He saw a big tree. The tree had sweet figs. It was across the river. The water was very deep. Jackal wanted the sweet fruit. He needed to be brave. He walked to the water.

Alligator lived in the river. He wanted a new friend. He lay very, very still. He looked like a log. Jackal looked at the log. He looked at the water. He took a deep breath. He was a brave Jackal.

Jackal had a clever plan. He called out very loud. Do logs have big eyes? Alligator opened his big eyes. No, logs have no eyes! Alligator felt very, very silly. Jackal laughed a happy laugh.

Jackal found a small bridge. He walked across the bridge. He reached the fig tree. The figs were very sweet. He ate many sweet figs. He filled a big basket. He felt very, very happy.

Jackal went back home now. He gave figs to everyone. He gave figs to Alligator. Alligator liked the sweet fruit. Thank you brave Little Jackal! They were now best friends. They played by the river.
