Puss in Boots

Once, there lived a boy named Tom. He was the son of a miller. Tom had a cat named Puss. Puss was very clever and very fast. One day, Puss spoke to Tom. I can help you, Puss said. Tom smiled at his fluffy friend. He knew Puss was special.
Puss needed two things to help Tom. He wanted a sack and shiny boots. Tom used his last gold coin. He bought the tiny leather boots. Puss put them on his paws. He looked very grand and brave. Now, the adventure could truly begin. Tom felt happy and hopeful today.
Puss went into the deep green woods. He used his sack to catch gifts. He found juicy berries and sweet nuts. Puss walked to the King's big castle. He bowed low before the royal throne. A gift from my master, Puss said. The King was pleased with Puss. He liked the sweet, red berries.
The King had a daughter, the Princess. She loved animals and kind people. Puss told them about his master, Tom. He called Tom a very fancy name. The Princess wanted to meet him soon. Puss hurried back to find Tom. He had a very good plan. Tom was waiting by the blue river.
Quick, jump into the river, Puss cried. Tom trusted his clever cat friend. He hid behind a large, gray rock. The King's golden carriage drove by soon. Help, my master's clothes are gone, Puss yelled. The King stopped his horses at once. He wanted to help the young man. The guards looked for the clothes.
The King gave Tom beautiful silk clothes. Tom looked like a very handsome prince. He met the Princess and smiled warmly. They talked about flowers and bright stars. Tom was a very good listener. They became friends that very day. True friendship is a wonderful thing. The King was happy for them.
Puss ran ahead to a giant castle. A silly Ogre lived inside the walls. The Ogre liked to boast and brag. I can change into anything, he roared. Puss pretended to be very surprised. The Ogre turned into a huge lion. He had a big, messy mane. Puss clapped his paws in wonder.
That is very big, Puss shouted loudly. Can you become something very tiny? The Ogre wanted to show off more. He wiggled his nose and ears. Suddenly, he was a little gray mouse. The Ogre squeaked and ran in circles. Puss laughed at the funny mouse. It was a very good trick.
Puss did not hurt the little mouse. He just wanted to play a game. Puss chased the mouse out the door. The mouse ran far into the fields. He was happy to be outside again. Now, the castle was quiet and peaceful. Puss cleaned his whiskers and waited. He felt very proud of himself.
The King and Princess arrived very soon. They saw the beautiful castle and gardens. Welcome to our home, Tom said kindly. They all had a big, happy feast. Puss wore his boots with great pride. Clever friends find a way together. They lived happily in the sunny castle. Puss was the cleverest cat ever.
